Re: AOKA Educational Seminar Weekend [by Sensei Morse]

Announcements:: AOKA Educational Seminar Weekend
Mr. Conger,

You need to realize you are still young in your training, as well as being a young instructor. It is something that doesn't come over night.

You can't expect to have all the answers, you have to keep training. The best thing for you is to keep working on your techniques, plus workout with your instructor and others to gain the knowledge you seek. It all comes with time.

One thing that was said to me a long time ago, and over this past weekend it was told to me again. I am sure you will use this with your first black belt: When you achieve black belt you now know your basics. You can perform your basics well. When you reach Sandan You not only know your basics, you can now teach someone basics. When you reach Rokudan you not only know your basics, teach students basics, but now your are a teacher of teachers.

There is always a pattern on how things go. There are good karate-ka's, and there are good teachers. You want to strive to be both. Does it always workout that way. No, but we keep striving for it. That is why years of practice, teaching sandans, teaching rokudans, make the instructors who taught over the weekend very good and make it look easy. They have been studying for 35 to 40 plus years. They have their time in. Got to remember you have the rest of your life in front of you. Keep up the good work, keep your students learning, and everything will be fine.

Sensei
