Patches
There are patches that are part of the uniform (gi) that are mandatory for participation in class:
Mizu Gami
The Mizu Gami is the symbol of Isshinryu Karate. It is worn on your gi on the left side over your heart.
MSOI Patch
The MSOI Patch is the school patch identifying where you learn and train. It is worn on the right arm of your gi, about an inch down from the shoulder seam.

U.S. Flag (optional)
An optional U.S. Flag patch can be worn on the left arm of your gi, about an inch down from the shoulder seam.

AOKA Chevrons (optional)
The American Okinawan Karate Association chevron patches should be worn above and below the Mizu Gami on your gi. They are shaped to fit the Mizu Gami oval. The AOKA also makes available an all-in-one patch with both the chevrons and the Mizu Gami (not pictured) embroidered together. This means less sewing, though it is slightly more expensive.

Academic Achievement (by Award only)
This patch is only awarded by Sensei Morse for students who have shown both exceptional scholarly and karate abilities. It is awarded twice a year (you can only receive one). This patch is the worn on the left arm of your gi, about an inch down from the shoulder seam, or below the U.S. Flag if you are wearing that patch as well.

Class Conduct
Always follow instructions in class. Show respect to every classmate (karateka). Always set a good example, because lower ranking students look to higher ranking students for leadership. Never interrupt when someone is talking. Be very attentive to instructors when they are teaching; listening for small details is a good practice that often pays off. Never question a higher rank openly. If you feel you must question a higher rank on something, do so privately.
When you are out of class, it is your responsibility to practice what you have learned. This not only means practicing karate basics or kata, but also carrying over the idea of respecting others. You have reached a high level in your training when you can end a confrontation without violence. If you are forced to defend yourself, report it to Sensei during the next class. If you are caught starting fights, you will not be allowed to continue training at the Morse School of Isshinryu.
Expectations
There are many expectations that Sensei has for students of MSOI. One of these expectations is respect. SHowing respect no only to Sensei, but Black Belts, higher ranks, lower ranks, and others outside of class proves that you are able to effectively train for karate.
Another expectation that Sensei has for students is discipline. It takes discipline to train, not only during class, but outside of class as well.
One last thing that Sensei Morse expects from his students is to have fun while learning Isshinryu Karate.
